Happy halfway through August everybody! Just a note to let you know how we are!
Dennis is busy with the silage crew. They have chopped for several customers here around Fairview, and a couple large dairies over at Baileyville. Chopping involves a huge expensive machine that cuts off eight rows of corn at once, chews it into little pieces, and blows it into big silage trucks. This is all very interesting, high maintenance-type work! Dennis is a skilled truck driver! The most exciting part is driving exactly right behind the chopper going through the cornfield the first time (opening up). I don't know what he focuses on, not hitting the back of the chopper, I guess, as he is literally in a tunnel of corn, with lots of it splattering the windshield! I thinks he enjoys working with the guys, but also feels like he needs to be getting his equipment ready for fall harvest!
I have enjoyed canning some salsa with ingredients from our garden. I also worked up some peaches. Thursday afternoon Josh and I headed to Omaha and visited Regina, Joel and girls for the afternoon. The guys went on a bike ride. We saw Shannon while in Omaha too, which was a treat.
Amanda and I went to see Dad and Mary last evening. Dad was another year older, and Mary made a chocolate cake to celebrate! The puppies are real live-wires right now, I believe Mary said they're 5wks. old. If they were mine, I would hate parting with them!
I heard that Josh has poison ivy and Jereme and Steve have had a flu bug. Hope everybody's feeling much better soon!
I saw Frances Chandler last week. We had a nice visit. She had gone to Carrollton MO with Teresa one day to get plums to make her famous plum jelly! She will be 88 on the 24th of this month (I think). She still loves her little home in Sabetha and enjoys her weekly trips to Hiawatha to get her hair done and eat lunch with Betty Albee and friends.
I've had a little trouble attaching photos to the blog, as I think they are in the process of upgrading... Hopefully it will be better soon, as we love seeing the pictures of everybody!
Have a great day! Love,
Barb

Thanks for the update! You sound busy and happy! I've also made a batch of salsa and got my plum jam made yesterday with some little tiny yellow plums we have here in the yard. We have lots of fruit trees here with not much fruit on them for some reason and a couple of volunteer zucchini plants....may have a volunteer okra plant too.... We have some pears but it seems like it is taking forever for them to ripen! We rae having some wonderful summer days right now. They say it won't rain for a while now....we'll see! That would be good for the road production!
