Weekend report from Cluj

Hi! We had a fun weekend. Sat. we drove over to the Dog Show in Targe Mures 100 km...about 2 hour drive. It was raining but we saw so many different kinds of dogs. It was held outside of a large castle and everyone was trying to keep their dogs clean and dry. We saw some dogs like Barney, but we didn't think they held a candle to him! Ha! I tried to get some pictures, but wouldn't you know my batteries were dying! That was our anniversary night and we celebrated eating mici (basically seasoned hamburger rolls), and puite pui (grilled chicken breast) there under a tent at the dog show!
Then yesterday we were invited to our friends landlord's place up in the mountains only about 25 minutes from here. The landlady cooked up a storm....we had bread and several kinds of vegetable dips, ciorba (chee-or-ba) a cream soup with vegies and meat, sarmala (yummy cabbage rolls with meat and sauce) and then pork and beef fillets and all kinds of steamed vegies!. We took an old row boat out on the lake and rowed around then came back and had clatite (crepes) with sweet cheese and cherries! Yum! We ended up spending almost the whole day there. The husband was quite a "colorful" character. Trying to speak English and he kept us laughing all day because he would know some words or quotes and use them.
I taught Mike my canasta game last night and he was beating me pretty good becore we gave it up and went to bed. He travels to Bucharest tonight for meetings tomorrow.....
Another Bechtel wife is supposed to arrive this week. She was actually here before me (came in March and I met her then) but she has been gone to the states to see her family.
