News from Cluj

Dear Family,
Thought I'd just catch up on the latest here before I go to London tomorrow to see Shannon.

Shannon arrived in London on the 8th without one of her suitcases. The suitcase had her 2 new suits and shampoo and hair straightener in it! She was a little homesick the first day when she was alone in her hotel room. But her suitcase came in at midnight, and she was so excited again after her first day of orientation at work. We heard this is one of the largest "classes" of Bechtel grad. students yet...16. She already knew some of the people from the interviews and has a Bechtel "grad" on either side of her at the hotel. One of the girls is also in EHS (enviro. health, and safety) and will be coming here to Romania. And one of the engineers is going with her to Albania. They all have been going out every night and must be doing things this weekend as we haven't heard from her!
We heard from Megan. She is doing well. Started classes last week and seems pretty enthused about her instructors . She is trying to cut back to 3 nights work a week at the restaurant, but they scheduled her 5 last week.
Casey I haven't heard from recently. but she was working a lot last week, babysitting another boxer one day....Brian was in Texas on a training, but I think he is due home this weekend.
We went to a FUNdrasier game night last night at Betty Sue's . Played games and visited. Made some money for our scholarship fund (the women's club) for a gypsy girl to continue her education after the 8th grade. That's when they usually drop out and get married. For 500 Euros a year we are sponsoring a girl. We had fun.
Then today we went to a colleagues birthday party for their little boy who just turned one. Matei. It is a beautiful day here but turning cool...just in the low 60's. They had a cookout.
Mike was in Bucherest all last week dealing with the client. We have a new Becthel couple here so we took Maru apartment hunting and she found a nice one she liked. And so it goes! Mike is going to try to join me in London on the weekend to see Shannon off to Albania and celebrate her birthday. He has some business there on Monday.
And that's about all I know. Hope all is well with you all! Happy Birthday Barb and Jeri!!!!!!

Good to hear from you, Jan! Glad Shannon made it and is liking her training. We'll be thinking of her! It's cool here, too, feels like fall! Harvest will be right around the corner! Love you both-Barb
